Step 1Get a rap name. Names like Sean Combs (Diddy) or Shawn Carter (Jay-Z) just don't fly in the rap world. Think of a rap name that incorporates something from your name, lifestyle or biography to add a little mystique to your persona. Think edgy and catchy to find the right name.

Step 2Hone your battle skills. Rap battling is one of the best ways to innovate new beats and lyrics in a pressured environment. Many of the top rappers started out as master battlers, so start battling in your community to get your lyrics rolling off your tongue.

Step 3Make a demo tape. You can rent a public studio for a fairly reasonable amount of money to lay some tracks down. Get a solid mix tape and use your friends and family as a test audience. If you know some other aspiring rappers, ask for help in the production of the tape.

Step 4Publicize your material. Give your demo tape out to as many people as possible. Try attending rap events and clubs where you can drop your tape off with the MC and DJ. Also, take advantage of Internet outlets like MySpace and YouTube to get your name and style out there.

Step 5Keep going even when it seems like the odds are stacked against you. Not only did it take most successful rappers much longer to reach their goals than they initially thought, but many of their most difficult times produced their best material. Stay in it, keep innovating beats and rhythms and take heart in the process of becoming a hip hop success.

RAF - Last Man Standing EP

This is Raf's EP "Last Man Standing". Off Da Wall crew-Knowledge (formerly Smoove One), Dread Mighty (formerly Sine) & Raf (formerly Remraf) are a prolific and dynamic rap group from Chicago known for battling, and writing. We had a few deals both as ODW and as individuals both on major and indie labels and have performed all across the US (and outside!) alongside golden agers & new school heads.

  The 10 Deep shindig at Element (225 East Houston) was aiite..

I was with my boy Ian from school aaaaallll the way in the back of the line when I walked up line to ear-hustle and BOOM!

Drew from X-Men (who incidentally goes to my school's BK campus) was chillin' talking to "The Twins" who did a couple cuts for Psalm One.  

So we did the Chi-York & crew shizzle and I slid in right behind the Twins, called Ian upline and we ran up in that joint, alcoholism ablaze.

Apparently only Heinekens were free (yuck) until 11p (doors opened at 10) and you needed an armband to get upstairs & cut the line-fuck me in the neck with a pit bulls tail-I was on the list and din't e'en know it...fuck!  So we had to hang downstairs with a gang of hard-legs and about two women-but I got to chill with a crew-mate I ain't meet before, Hollywood Holt & Million $ Mano briefly.

Peeped Rose from GoliathRF and Tyneal came through to spit game in my ear.

THe best moments were when the Murder Club reps got onstage

and as Mano spun, Holt screamed into the mic, jumpin from rap to some good-down home booty-house, of which i cannot allow myself to not boogie to! It was almost as awesome as my camera failing to operate!

All in all it was cool, just wish I planned to do something else that night in addition...

I, my peoples am still in Rhode Island, and yes...I will be in Brooklyn August 27th till at the very least the year 2010...if not longer...like forever.
My fam is moving to VA like-at the exact same time so I gotta move them, myself and my crap simultaneously. What's my new address? Fuck if I know. I'm also working on two other projects with Maf Maddix of Ninja Science (North Carolina) & another with Marcus Garvey Lite (DC/ATL) & my kid brother Kikuyu Allah (Chicago/BKLYN)
Maf Maddix & I are doing a project called "Black Nationalist Porn" as a split CD of 20 tracks, & MG, Kikuyu & I are Typical Stereo Negros in "The Negro Problem".
